Herbert (Herb) McCain, 91, passed away Monday August 19th at his home.
Herb was born December 28th 1921 in Broken Arrow. He was the son of John and Nora McCain. He graduated from Yale High School in 1941. He went to Humboldt State College in Arcata, CA on a football scholarship. After World War II, he graduated from OSU in 1949 with a degree in accounting.
Herb married Margueritte Clarke (the love of his life), his high school sweetheart, in 1944. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and was later accepted as a flight instructor into the Marine Air Corps. Herb retired from the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a Major in 1981.
In 1954 he started his career as a life insurance agent and was with the Carl Leonard and Sons Agency for almost 50 years. His policy holders became good friends. He enjoyed flying, sports, golf, traveling and being with his family.
In 2012, he participated in the Oklahoma Honor Flight honoring WWII veterans in Washington D.C. He volunteered for years with Meals on Wheels and regularly donated blood to the Red Cross.
Herb is survived by wife Margueritte, Herb II (Jerrie), Martie (Larry Aduddell), Clarke (Patricia); grandchildren, Jennie Williams (Brandon), Sean McCain, Todd Aduddell, Emily Boyd (Daniel). Herb was preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings.
Herb is survived by numerous friends, relatives, and loved ones. We find peace that he knew the Lord and is in a better place. Since 1985, he was a member of First United Methodist Church and The Beacon Sunday School class.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Tulsa. Memorial donations may be made to the Beacon Scholarship fund, First United Methodist Church.
