Howard Leroy Hillman, 91, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on November 28, 2012. Howard was a devoted Christian and a loving example to his family, church and many friends. Howard was born on April 6, 1921 to Edna and George Hillman in Moores Hill, Indiana. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 wonderful years, Orga, his children, daughter Pam Kaiser (Earl) of Milan, Indiana, son Jim Hillman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, daughter Marcia Yurczyk (Randy) of Whitestown, Indiana and daughter Kendra Robinson (Mark) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Kevin Kaiser (Missy), Jason Kaiser (Amy), Kayla Robison (Stephen), Alana and Sophie Yurczyk, and Jake Huddleston,; his great-grand children Amanda and Bo Kaiser, Macy, Cole and Megan Kaiser; and his siblings George Hillman of Batesville, Indiana, and Norman Hillman (Chris) of Milan, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.
Howard was a WWII Army veteran serving as Staff Sergeant from 1942 to 1946 and stationed in the Philippines. He was a 65 year member of the Sunman American Legion Post 337. During his 45 working years, he was employed by Byron Jackson Pumps as a machinist and later promoted to plant superintendent. In the early years, he attended St. Paul United Methodist Church in Sunman, Indiana transferring his membership to First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow in 1966 after moving his family to Oklahoma. His favorite pastimes included eating ice cream, volunteering for Meals on Wheels, watching girls fastpitch softball, United Methodist Men activities, and all things Oklahoma State University.
He is preceded in death by his son Howard Leroy Jr., parents Edna and George Hillman, brother Tom Hillman and sister Vivian Burcham.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Sunman, Indiana on Friday, December 7, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to the Christmas charity of your choice or the Wounded Warriors in his name.
