Luther Jackson Hays, Jr. (Jack) died peacefully on October 5, 2012, at age 87. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Ann (Rezarch). Deeply missed by his children, Bob (Darlene) Hays and Nan (Fred) Munkholm; grandchildren, Sarah Hays (Areba Bennett), Brian Hays, Dane Munkholm, Ben Munkholm, Maggie Munkholm, and Anna Munkholm; great-grandsons Jack Munkholm and Asher Bennett-Hays; and many other relatives and friends.
Born in Monroe, Louisiana, on September 26, 1925, to Luther Jackson Hays, Sr. and Maude Elizabeth Mullin, Jack graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe in 1942 and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering from LSU in 1948. He also studied at Oberlin College and Princeton University. He served on active duty as a Lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1946 and then in the Naval Reserve from 1946-1956.
After working for Shell Oil and as an independent consultant, Jack was employed by Williams Bros. International as a general manager in Iran, Libya, Algeria, and Nigeria. His last assignment was in Tulsa, where he retired in 1983.
Enjoying lives devoted to church and family, Jack and Phyllis spent their free time traveling and collecting art. Jack’s many talents included cabinetry and furniture making, oil painting, wood carving, and gardening. He always wanted fresh flowers in the house for his wife, the treasure of his life.
We miss them. They are always in our hearts.
Bob and Nan
