BJ (Bettie Joan) Hagers, age 81, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012.
Born and raised in Stillwater, she graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1953 with a degree in art. After graduation, she moved to Tulsa, starting work in sales with Scott-Rice office supplies. She was also employed by Ackerman Advertising in sales and ad design, but returned to finish her long business career with Scott-Rice. She was a long-time member and officer in the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), where she mentored many aspiring young business women.
An avid animal lover, world traveler, and champion fencer, after retirement she turned to her passion for friends, dance, and theater as a longtime member of the “Happy Hoofers” senior dance troupe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Josephine Hagers, her beloved twin sister, Jean Mahoney, and her lifetime friend Onita “Jackie” Shipley.
She is survived by her sister, Kathleen Chabrak; three nieces, Jean Sibley, Kathy Thompson, and Siobhan Foreman; two nephews, Kevin Mahoney and Tom Chabrak, and loving grand-nieces and nephews; and countless wonderful friends.
Her memorial service will be 9:00 am, Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Cremation Society Chapel located at 2103 E. 3rd Street, Tulsa, OK 74104.
Friends may contribute in BJ’s name to the Tulsa Zoo, the Humane Society of the U.S. or a charity of their choice.
