Betty Jane Whitlow Dexter, 85, of Tulsa, passed away May 5, 2016. Betty
was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on February 27, 1931 to Jess and Dorothy
Whitlow. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Russell
Parker Dexter. Betty is survived by two children Diane Stamm and husband
Greg of Broken Arrow, and David Dexter and wife Becky of Broken Arrow,
and four grandchildren, Amanda Pitcock and husband Daniel, Stephanie Stamm,
Emily Dexter, and Ashley Stamm.
Betty’s life focused around love for her family and her love of music.
She attended the Kansas City Music Conservatory and received her Bachelor
in Music Education from the University of Tulsa. Betty and her husband
Russell were instrumental in establishing the CUMC Hand Bell choir. She
was a 48 year member of the Wesley Sunday School class. In 1968, Betty
started the Tulsa Newbelles, a singing group that performed throughout
Tulsa and whose members still have monthly gatherings.
Betty’s family and friends will celebrate her life at 4pm, May 20,
2016 at Christ United Methodist, 3515 S. Harvard in Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Betty Dexter to
Christ United Methodist.
