Shirley Jean Parkinson, age 91, a residence of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed
away on Jan 28, 2014 at 5:40 PM at Inverness Village.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2014
at Mason Chapel at Asbury United Methodist Church in Tulsa.
Shirley Parkinson was born November 24, 1922 in Wichita Falls TX. Although
born a Texan, Shirley was raised in Miami, Florida. She attended Florida
State College for Women in Tallahassee, then met and married her love,
Bill Parkinson, in 1945. They moved to Stillwater in 1946 and to Tulsa
in 1948 where they started their family. They were transferred to Fort
Worth in 1952 where they stayed for nearly 20 years, parenting their four
children and contributing to their church and community. In1971, they
returned to Tulsa where she has been very involved in Asbury UMC and the
community. Shirley was a wonderful mother. She had many interests, including
being a pianist, artist, gardener, bridge player, and traveling with Bill.
Shirley and Bill moved into Inverness Village in 2011, and her family
would like to thank the staff for the compassionate and loving care they
provided Shirley.
She was preceded in death by: her son, David Parkinson and her brother,
Lynn McGiboney.
She is survived by; her husband of 69 years, Bill Parkinson; son Dean Parkinson
and wife Sally of Granbury, Texas; son Larry Parkinson and wife Judy of
Lawton, Oklahoma; daughter Anne Marie Patton and husband Brad of Katy,
Texas; grandchildren: Christy Hendri, Katie Patton, Cameron Patton, Leslie
Patton; great grandchildren: Nadia Hendri and Aaron Hendri; sister, Carol
Piper of Murfreesboro, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to the American
Cancer Society
