Obituary

After leaving this earth and physical body on her own terms, Beverly leaves family and friends behind in her wake. Ever true to herself and fiercely independent, hers was a long life well lived. As she directed, a memorial celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at her church, Memorial Drive United Methodist, 7903 E 15th Street, Tulsa, OK 74112. Family will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall at 11:00am followed by the memorial service at noon in the Chapel. Audience participation with stories and remembrances was her wish. Beverly was well traveled and had many adventures through the years. She has seen both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, and cruised the Bahamas. While her brother Gary moved about the US during his Naval career, Beverly would often visit him and his family in new and exciting destinations. In later years, Beverly returned to the Tulsa house she grew up in. After marriage and children, she came back to Seventh Street to care for her dad in his last years. She had so many memories in that house it was very hard for her to leave it. Her mother taught her to sew and quilt. Her dad taught her to fish and enjoy cars and travel. Family meals, holiday feasts, and friends surrounded that little table in the kitchen. Her mom was a wonderful cook and the table could always be set for one more friend. Often times, that friend was her best friend, Nita. As girls, they shared everything: secrets, adventures, and clothes. Later, they even shared last names, after having met and married Smith brothers in a double ceremony in 1952. Both Beverly and Nita were 'skaters' back in the day when everyone understood that term could only mean roller-skates, and she stayed in touch with many of her skating friends through the years with potlucks and reunions. Beverly found fulfillment in her church family and was a longtime member. She was also a member of Piecemaker Quilters, and she served for many years as their Treasurer. Beverly was a Christian and was sure in her faith when called home to be with her Lord. She was very fond of Hayleigh, Penny and Beverly from Saint Francis Hospice. Their care supported her and the family during a long and difficult illness. Her last days were spent at Clarehouse, a Hospice residence whose volunteers and staff lovingly kept her comfortable. She was very content and at peace. Many friends spent time with her there and she was so appreciative of their love and support. Beverly leaves two children, daughter Cindy Scott (husband Roger), from Richardson, TX and son Brad Smith (wife Mary), of Tulsa. She was preceded by her parents Henry Albert and Margaret Marie Monteith, and her brother Gary Henry Monteith. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be considered for Piecemaker Quilters, c/o Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, or Clarehouse at 7617 S Mingo Rd, Tulsa OK 74133. Service: 05/19/2018 00:00 12:00 p.m. Memorial Drive United Methodist Church 7903 East 15th Street
