Mary was born in 1947 in Tulsa to Charles Joseph Friedl and Ella Arena Rather Friedl and was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Church in Tulsa. She passed away peacefully in December 2018 after an extended illness at the age of 71.
She attended elementary school at St. Francis Xavier and graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa in 1964. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated from Tulsa Business College in 1967. Later she also took additional college courses at Mesa Community College in San Diego.
Mary worked as a secretary-stenographer at Sunray DX Oil Company and the County of San Diego before moving to Jidda, Saudi Arabia where she lived and worked for 6 years as an executive secretary for Raytheon Middle East Systems and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In 1981, Mary moved to Phoenix with the love-of-her-life, David Browning. They were married on March 29, 1982 and celebrated 33 years of marriage a few months before his death. Together, they enjoyed riding motorcycles, playing golf and loving the many cats and dogs that shared their Phoenix home. Mary was also active in Toastmasters and served as president of her chapter for several years.
Soon after moving to Phoenix, Mary began working for the Computer Systems Department (later known as the Office of Enterprise Technology) at Maricopa County in Phoenix. While there she became proficient on word-processing technology, which was a new innovation, and oversaw the word processing training. Dave also worked for Maricopa County in the Office of the Treasurer. She retired from Maricopa County with over 26 years of service in February 2008.
After Dave's death in 2015, Mary moved to Tulsa to be closer to her extended Friedl family.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband , David Henry Browning, her father, Charlie Friedl and two of her brothers, Mark Christopher Friedl and Frank Brian Friedl, two brothers-in-law, Ma Keung "Danny" Ho and William "Bill" Bishop and sister-in-law, Gail Lee Friedl. She is survived by her mother and step-father, Ella and Dale Tieszen of Tulsa, sisters Jeannie (Dan) Coley of Norman, Theresa Bishop of San Diego and Tina Billingsly of Tulsa; three brothers and their wives, Michael and Linda Friedl, Kelly and Beverly Friedl, and Patrick and Beth Friedl all of Tulsa and sister-in-law Teresa Friedl Castle of Coweta. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mary passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. The family wishes to thank her caregivers from Senior Helpers and St. Francis Hospice for all the loving care, compassion and attention that they provided Mary. The family celebrated Mary's life at a private family gathering.
