Alfred Merece Howerton, Jr., age 88 passed away on August 2, 2015 surrounded by his family. Al was born August 8, 1926 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Alfred M. Howerton Sr. and Myrtle Mae Walker. On July 19, 1944 he enlisted in the US Army Air Force at the age of 17. He received an honorable discharge when Germany and Japan surrendered to the Allied Forces. Al married the woman of his dreams, Cathrene Willis, on April 1, 1950 in a double ceremony with his boyhood buddy Beryl D. Ford and Lydia Tyson. He worked as a surveyor in various locations laying out pipelines, highways, shopping centers, and other buildings. Al completed some college hours to begin a profession as a cost estimator for large construction projects. He worked for Helmerich Payne, Manhattan Construction Company, Oakridge Construction Company in Tulsa and surrounding areas as well as Atlanta, Georgia and Houston, Texas. He retired from Flintco in Tulsa at the age of 70. His hobbies included studying his families' ancestry, spending time with his family and friends, and he was an avid reader particularly interested in non-fiction. Al had an uncanny knack with numbers and was constantly creating formulas and spreadsheets. Al grew up attending First Baptist Church in Tulsa; he was baptized there at the age of 12. He was a member of Woodland Acres Baptist Church in Tulsa. Al was known for his strong work ethic and his honesty and integrity. He is preceded in death by his son: Alfred M. Howerton III; infant great-grandson: Cole Oliver Holcomb; brother: Richard Phillip Howerton. Al is survived by his children: Stephanie (Gary) Holcomb of Tulsa; Ramona Catherene Howerton of Washington DC and Thomas Daniel Howerton of Muskogee; grandchildren: Charles Oliver Holcomb, Katrina Renee Crain, Amanda Marie (Jamal Davis) Shine; great-grandchildren, Madison MaKenzie Shine, Sterling Michael Shine and Olivia Maide Holcomb. In Lieu of Flowers, the family ask donations be sent in honor of his younger brother Richard 'Dick' Howerton for Lou Gehrigs Disease/ALS Foundation.
