Obituary

Andrew Jackson Boren, age 63, of Checotah, OK, passed away on October 30, 2026, surrounded by family at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. A celebration of his life service will take place at Westside Freewill Baptist Church in Checotah, OK, on Saturday, November 7th, at 2:00 p.m.

Andrew was born in Dallas, TX, on March 2, 1963, to George Frank and Joy Elizabeth (Vineyard) Boren. Andy graduated from Acorn High School in 1981. He married the love of his life Vicky, on September 9, 1983. In 1987, he joined the Navy, where he was a corpsman. His fellow servicemen remember him as "Pops" because he looked out for the younger servicemen. After he was discharged for medical reasons, he obtained his EMT license. He then went back to school at Rich Mountain Community College to become an LPN. He worked for Mercy Hospital in Waldron, AR, where he also drove an ambulance. He volunteered as a fireman for Waldron Rural Fire Department.

Andy loved spending time with his family. Going on family vacations with his kids and grandkids were some of his favorite times. He also enjoyed all the trips with his sister, her husband, nieces, and nephews. Andy loved being outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Andy will be greatly missed by all.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, George Frank and Joy Elizabeth (Vineyard) Boren; his grandparents, Dewey Allen and Mattie Viola (Cross) Vineyard, and John Washington Boren; his father-in-law, Cleoma Jackson (Jack) Perry; his sister-in-law, Sherry Boren; along with several aunts and uncles.

Andy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Vicky Denise (Perry) Boren; daughter, Cecilia Duke and husband Jarrod; grandchildren, Haley, Hannah, and Harley Duke, and Elijah and Ethan Penny; daughter, Stacey Boren; granddaughter, Emmelyne Boren; siblings, George Allen Boren, John Henry Boren, Joy Elizabeth (Boren) Hoose and husband Roger Dale, Michael Joe Boren, and Alexander Napoleon Boren and wife Jessica; brothers-in-law, Leslie Richard (Rick) Perry and wife Gabi, and Christopher Wayne Perry; mother-in-law, Marilyn Jones and husband William (B.J.); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family, and friends.
