Armin Louis Saeger, Jr., 87, died Saturday, April 28, 2012, in Tulsa. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, on April 11, 1925. In keeping with his Quaker beliefs, Armin served his country in Alternate Service, including human guinea pig experiments during WWII, and he was active in the early Civil Rights Movement. After graduating from Earlham College, Armin and his wife Mary Jane became Mission Directors at Kickapoo Friends Center in McCloud, OK. He earned his Masters of Social Work at The University of Oklahoma, and became a social worker at US Public Health Service Indian Hospital in Tahlequah. In 1966, he began work at the national level as Executive Director of the Indian Rights Association. He then took a clinical position at the Tulsa Psychiatric Center and became an Accredited Bioenergetic Therapist. Eventually, Armin practiced privately. He enjoyed gardening in his extensively landscaped yard, often a featured stop on The Tulsa Water Garden Tour. During Armin's retirement years at Inverness Village, he was active in a local writers group and published a collection of insightful, heartwarming memoirs, Sowing My Quaker Oats, to the delight of his family and friends. His peaceful essence and varied accomplishments touched others in meaningful and lasting ways.
