Betty Ann Cater Evers, age 69, was born in Natchez, Mississippi, October 29, 1947 to James Eugene Cater and Ida Louise Diaz Cater (both now deceased). Betty entered heaven on Saturday, January 28, 2017 and got to meet her earthly father who she lost when she was two years old. Betty was raised in Vidalia, Louisiana and graduated from High School there with a host of her tight knit school friends. During her High School days she met Joe Darrell Evers, a Natchez High alum, and they were married on June 10, 1967 at Grace United Methodist Church in Natchez. Joe took Betty back to Mississippi State University with him where she worked for Coach Paul Gregory in the Physical Education Department of the University. After Joe completed his Accounting degree program and finished his basic training in the Army National Guard, they made their home in Monroe, Louisiana where Joe had accepted a job in the Accounting Department with State Farm Insurance. In October of 1971 Betty welcomed her son Joe Jr. to the family. A job promotion moved the family to Bloomington, Illinois in 1973 and the family grew with the birth of Jason in 1975. He is our Normal child. (We lived in the town of Normal!) While in Bloomington, Betty worked in the Personnel Department for State Farm and after Jasons birth she became a licensed real estate agent. Betty and family moved back to Monroe in 1976 and continued education and work activities. Betty graduated with a Bachelors in Business Management with honors from Northeast Louisiana University. Her work life included time working as a Christian Counselor at Mercy Ministries, as well as for multiple State Farm agents in the area. She later became an underwriter for State Farm Insurance in the homeowner's insurance area and ultimately was promoted to Underwriting supervisor. In 2004 Bettys job was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she continued to work until her retirement. Bettys love of the Lord drew her into many ministry works. She was active in the womens ministry in several areas, helped lead a small group program in the church, became a part of the Sozo ministry, and was a mentor and prayer warrior for many. During her struggle with her illness she continued to reach out to others who needed prayer and encouragement. She prayed for one of her nurses in the chemo lab and they saw back pain leave the nurse. Once you were her friend, you were her friend indeed. Betty is survived by her husband, Joe D. Evers, her sister, Bonnie Blackman (Benton), and four brothers, James Cater (Yonie), Mike Cater (Lisa), Dennis Metcalfe (Janice), and Dale Metcalfe (Anna); sons, Joe D. Evers Jr. and Jason M. Evers (Neia); three grandchildren, Keturah Farrar (Corey), Gillian Renee Evers, Benjamin Anthony Rodrigues Evers, two great grandchildren, Alexis Grace Farrar, and Savannah Hope Farrar. Memorial services for Betty will be at 2 PM, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Believers Church with Pastor Roger Nix officiating. A second memorial service will be held in Natchez, Mississippi, at a future date and place. Interment will be at Natchez City Cemetery after the second memorial service. Memorials in Bettys name may be made to the charity of your choice.
