Born in Dallas, TX January 14, 1920, Betty Blackman Marsh made her way through life led by a faith in God she learned from her parents. When she was called Home by God on February 26, 2015, she had left gentle but indelible marks on the lives of her family and a wide circle of friends. She was truly the heart of our family. Betty was raised at the Texaco Refinery in Tulsa, with sister Anne and brother Ted, by their parents Ted and Marguerite Blackman. At Riverview Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High and Central HS, Betty made great friendships; she would meet classmates for lunch into her nineties. At Central (with 5,000 students in a 4-storiy building on a full city block), sports, parties, dances and social clubs made time fly. She loved to hang out at the horse with her friends. College, a year at K- State and a semester at TU, was marked by three things. She was initiated into Delta Delta Delta sorority and made lifetime friendships. She came to realize all chemistry courses were barriers to the future. And, it was life, not academics, that was calling her. It was off to sunny California where she would meet fellow Oklahoman Earl Marsh at the local USO. Betty would later tell family and dear friends, "Earl wasnt much of a dancer" but this handsome, soft-spoken young man was "the one". They married in Tacoma, WA in August, 1942. When Earls unit shipped out for England, then Europe, in early 43, Betty returned to OK to give birth to son Ron and wait for Earls return. Betty and Earl added two beautiful daughters, Molly and Cindy to their family. Living in a home Earl built, Betty was a loving mother and wife, a wonderful cook, a prize-winning seamstress, and active in the PTA. In 56, Betty became the Secretary at Holmes Elementary and began a 27 year career. Betty and Earl took up bridge and joined the Southwood Club with all its social activities. Family recreation was frequently around the water of NE Oklahoma and Missouri with much of the time at Grand Lake where Bettys parents had retired. In August, 1974, Betty lost her beloved Earl to cancer. In true Betty-fashion, she drew strength from friends and family, and coped through a high level of activities. From the mid-70s and into the turn of the century, Betty was heavily involved in Tulsas contract bridge community. As part-owner of the Tulsa Bridge Studio, she loved playing bridge, competed in many tournaments, and became an ACBL Life Master. Travel would see her go with friends to Hawaii, the British Isles and Europe. Betty is survived by: son Ron Marsh (Kathy), daughters Molly Kramer (Galand) Cindy Cunningham (Jacques); grandchildren Jodi Trast (Tom), Patrick Cunningham (Earon) and David Cunningham (Lauren); great grandchildren Kelsey, Haley and Larson Trast; Hannah Molly Cunningham; and Connor Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Marguerite Blackman, husband Earl, sister Anne and brother Ted. Bettys life will be noted for her love of people and her willingness to help others. She accepted people for what they were, forgave them for what they werent, and loved them as friends. It would be her wish that her family and friends continue to share and spread the love she shared with all. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 6, 2015, at 1:00 in the Rose Chapel of Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1300 S. Boston, Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, Bettys family invites those who wish to remember Betty with a donation to consider giving in her name to: The Little Light House or the Boston Avenue UM Churchs Compassion Ministry.
