Obituary

Bonnie D. Carter, 92, of Tulsa, OK, passed away April 14, 2023. Bonnie was born to Ewald and Pauline Drude on March 24, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She grew up in Tulsa, graduated from Will Rogers High School and attended Tulsa University and Oklahoma State University where she studied Interior Design. In 1963, Bonnie met James Carter while attending a social and dance at the Tulsa Press Club and they married that same year. They had two children together and raised their family in Tulsa, of which six years were lived in Denver, CO.

While raising her girls—whom she cherished and lovingly called her little chickadees, Bonnie worked part-time off and on when they were school-aged children. She enjoyed introducing and taking them to various lessons: swimming, dance, music, but she also enjoyed learning several of the same activities (swimming and ice skating) herself!

Bonnie made sure she introduced her children to God and Jesus and she encouraged that growth in many ways throughout her life. Her Christian faith and attending church – a member at several during her lifetime, were as important to her in childhood as it was as an adult; she believed that God was her Father and Jesus loved her.

Bonnie and Jim also loved nature and the outdoors and spent countless days and multiple family vacations sharing these wonders with their daughters. She enjoyed boating and fishing at Ft. Gibson Lake, mountain drives, and walking. She adored animals and had many family dogs and a cat that she called her 'grandchildren'.

When the family returned to Tulsa, Bonnie took business courses and worked in several Executive Secretarial positions. However, once she took a job at Warren Petroleum, this is where she worked as a Pricing Analyst for approximately 15 years until she retired.

After retirement, Bonnie loved spending more time with her daughters, volunteering, and making new and deeper friendships. Having coffee or lunch and hanging out with her friends was her thing. Her Book Club gave her endless enjoyment as it brought together two of her favorite things – her love of learning and the camaraderie of friends, old and new. Bonnie was also active in community service and the arts and spent many years as a Docent at The Philbrook Museum and serving a year as its Docent Council President. Additionally, she volunteered at: Harwelden as a Docent & Board Member, and at Assistance League of Tulsa, Asbury Singing Ambassadors, Little Light House, and St. Francis Auxiliary among others.

Bonnie spent her last few years at The Linden Memory Care facility in Tulsa. The family is grateful for the caring staff at The Linden and CompleteOK Hospice who took great care of her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Mary V. Carlson and husband Gerald. Bonnie is survived by her husband, James A. Carter, Jr. (Jim); her daughter Stephanie Weagley and husband, Jeff; and her daughter Michelle Carter.

Bonnie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. They will be holding a service and a private family interment in the future.
