Catherine Holtz Maercklein, 100, was born August 10, 1917 in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, the daughter of a tinsmith. She passed away peacefully September 20, 2017 surrounded by her family. Catherine graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School, reigned as Miss Sheboygan Falls for a year, and attended two years of business college. During her school years, she met the love of her life, Richard Maercklein, while ice skating on the river. They married in 1935 and moved to the neighboring Sheboygan where they worked and raised their family. As her sons grew older, she began work for a large department store in their accounting/bookkeeping division -- a job she enjoyed for many years. After retirement, she stayed active in the community, volunteering for the Homespun Crafts Store for several years. She especially enjoyed working on her arts and crafts, planting and gardening, as well as cooking for her family. Catherine entertained frequently for family and friends with "bratwurst cookouts" during the inevitable and beloved Green Bay Packers games. She is survived by two sons, Dennis (Geri) Maercklein of Missoula, Montana, Douglas (Gail) Maercklein of Tulsa; three grandchildren, Lisa Greenwood, Steven Maercklein, and Valerie Maercklein; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years; her parents Earl and Estelle Holtz; two brothers, Mel Holtz and Les Holtz, and one sister, Gladys Bohenstengel. The family would like to thank Zarrow Pointe, Dr. Carment, and Miller Hospice for their dedication and care of Catherine especially over the last two years. Private family services.
