Obituary

Cathy 'Corky' Jane Medford, 60 went to be with the Lord on June 12th following a very brief illness. Cremation has taken place per Cathy's instructions. Celebration of Life service will be June 23 at the Unity Church of Christianity, 3355 S Jamestown, Tulsa, Ok at 11 am with graveside service at 4pm in Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas. Cathy was born on May 30, 1952 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Andrew Gordon Medford and Shirley Jean (Newman) Medford. She attended school in Altamont and Coffeyville Ks graduating from Field Kindley in 1970. Cathy continued her education at Mid-America Nazarene College in Olathe graduating with a bachelor's degree in teaching. Cathy's first teaching assignment was in Zuni, NM for 5 years where she taught the Zuni Indian children mathematics. She taught in Sharon, Garden City and White City, Kansas (for 20 years) before retiring. Upon retirement she moved to Tulsa, Ok and worked for American Airlines for about 5 years. Missing her teaching career she returned to teach in Chanute, Coffeyville and Columbus, Kansas. She retired once again from teaching and moved back to Tulsa where she resided with her aunt, Jeri Medford. She worked at Anspire (IBM) as a help desk technician. She was employed there at the time of her death. Cathy was a member of the Central Nazarene Church in Coffeyville, Kansas and attended Nazarene churches in various other cities. She had a great passion for Dachshunds, sewing and flower gardening. She grew elephant ears taller than 5'. She was a member of the Chatty Chicks Chapter of the Tulsa Red Hat Society and Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas. She had an eBay store with her sister selling Handmade Doll Clothes. Cathy's specialty was Cabbage Patch Doll Clothes, which she customized and made unique. She had just completed two of her 'goals' by learning to knit overcoming her 'fear of water' by taking swimming lessons. Survivors include two sisters, Sharon Neeley and her husband James of Coffeyville, Kansas, Linda Wilson of Pryor, Oklahoma. 3 nephews: Michael Wilson and his wife Candace of Ruidoso NM; Bradley Wilson and his wife Kelly of Broken Arrow, OK; Bryan Wilson and his wife Laura of Pryor, OK. Several Aunts, 2 great nieces and one great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Andrew 'Scooter' E Medford. Cathy was always a giver and in that same spirit, her lasts gift to society was being an organ donor. Service: 06/23/2012 11:00 AM
