Celia Brown, also known by 'Ceci' and 'Noelle,' passed away in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, June 16th, at her home in Tulsa. Her death was unexpected, although her lifelong struggle with type one diabetes always made the possibility of death a day-to-day reality. She knew this, and her awareness of her own mortality only made her more fiercely in love with life - giving her a vibrancy and optimism and overflowing joy that touched everyone who knew her. She seized each day as if it were the last. She danced and stretched and loved to the fullest. Recently, she went blonde. Celia was 60 when she passed, at the peak of health and over-brimming with joy. She recently visited Washington, DC to attend her daughter's graduation, help her move into a new apartment, and get her started on her first job. She was deeply in love with her devoted partner, David, and they were both looking forward to embarking on a new life chapter together. She was hitting her stride professionally, growing ever more confident and nuanced in her mastery of healing through her massage therapy practice. She never skipped a day of intensive hot yoga at her favorite Salt yoga studio and was a long-time member of both Integral Transformative Practice (ITP) and All Souls Unitarian Church. Celia was a Christmas Eve baby, born on December 24, 1957 to Dorothy and Vernon Brown. She was the youngest child in a household with three older brothers. In her early life she was a dancer, eventually teaching dance professionally around the country. Her love for bodies and movement eventually led her to embrace and excel in a career in medical massage therapy. Celia gave birth to her daughter, April, on March 20, 1993. She raised April as a single parent in a home filled with love and laughter and light. Celia is survived by her daughter April Gordon, her three brothers Tom Brown, Jerry Rauch and Ron Rauch, her step brother William Sansing, and her partner David Stephenson. Celia's life will be celebrated on Friday, June 29 th at 3pm at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Diabetes Association at their website www.diabetes.org or by calling 1-800-342-2383.
