Obituary

Charles David Pearson, aged 95, passed away in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on September 4, 2021 at 7:20 pm surrounded by his children and loved ones. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 3:00 pm Saturday, October 2, 2021, at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church with Reverend Shelby Scott officiating. David was born February 26, 1926 in Nantwich, Cheshire, England. He spent his formative years as an athlete, captaining five sports teams including rugby, cricket, and track & field. From December 1944 to 1948, he served in the Royal Air Force, where he met and fell in love with his wife of sixty-five years, Ann Esme Lewis. In 1959, David emigrated to the United States with his wife and two children and took a position with Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK. He worked for twenty-six years as a Chemist in the Research and Development Department until his retirement in 1986. Even after his retirement, David continued working part-time for the National Institute of Energy Research for eight years. Throughout his time in Bartlesville, David was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and sang in the choir. He also led Boy Scout Troop 9, managed youth baseball teams, enjoyed acting in community theatre, playing tennis, traveling, and gardening. From Bartlesville, David and Ann moved to Louisville, KY to be near Anthony and his burgeoning family. There, they found a welcoming fellowship at St. Andrews Episcopal Church where he regularly read scripture and used his outstanding gardening skills to create joyful gardens on the grounds of the church. In 2010 the couple moved to the Tulsa area where they were wonderfully cared for by Vickie and Bill for the remainder of their lives. In Broken Arrow they were fortunate to discover and enjoy the warmth of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church and the leadership and compassionate ministry of Reverend Shelby Scott. David is survived by his two children and their spouses, Vickie and Bill Shockley and Dr. Anthony Pearson and Jen Perkins; eight grandchildren and spouses, Stephen and Mary Shockley, Abby and Travis Flood, Adam and Kelly Shockley, Jessica and Blake Kincannon, Dr. Chelsea Pearson and Jake Rebe, Brianna and Nico Haller, Dylan Pearson, and Gwyneth Pearson; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Esme Pearson, and his two sisters, Frances Bertha "Betty" Jones and Rosemary Roche. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma or St. Patrick's Episcopal Church General Fund. Due to the unfortunate circumstances with the virus, we ask that everyone who comes to the Memorial Service for David please be vaccinated and wear a mask. There will be a link to the virtual service if anyone would like to watch it from home. Just email Vickie Shockley at avshock@yahoo.com. Services will be held at St. Patricks Episcopal Church in Broken Arrow on October 2nd, at 3pm. Thank you for understanding
