Obituary

Charles Edward Platt passed away September 11, 2016 in Tulsa Oklahoma at age 86. He was born March 8, 1930, in Stillwater to Charles Eli and Donna Mae Platt. His parents were retired employees of Oklahoma State University. Charles is the former President and CEO of the Oklahoma State University Foundation. Under his tenure the Foundation received its first million dollar donation. This was the first of its kind from an individual or couple rather than a business entity. In 1948 Charles graduated from Stillwater High School, Stillwater, Oklahoma and began attending Oklahoma A M College. In January of 1951 he joined the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was first stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. February of that year he was transferred to Chanute AFB at Rantoul, Illinois, and discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1954. He reentered OAMC and graduated from the OAMC College of Business in 1957. Working part time at Fenton Office Supply while in college, he became a part-owner of the office store located in Stillwater. Charles joined Continental Pipe Line Company in 1959. He was transferred to Casper Wyoming, Ponca City Oklahoma, and Wichita Falls Texas. In September 1965 he was transferred to Conoco (Continental Oil Company) in Houston, Texas. He held various managerial positions, including Personnel Recruiting and Manager of Conocos LP Gas Supply. Charles love of OSU never wavered. While in Houston he was OSU Alumni President for the Houston Chapter. In June 1974 he joined the Oklahoma State University Foundation as Executive Director and CEO in Stillwater, OK. Later, to become Executive Vice President, and President while remaining as the Chief Executive Officer. In 1982 he was appointed Vice President for Alumni and Development and held the dual positions as he continued as President of the OSU Foundation. In 1987 Charles resigned as Vice President of OSU and retired Oct 31 1992 from the position as President and CEO of the OSU Foundation. Traveling became Charles main interest upon his retirement In May of 1993 he and his wife Sue left Stillwater and traveled for five years in their motor home. Late in life he and Sue made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Charles is survived by his wife Sue Wegner Platt (formerly of Ponca City) of 44 years; children (and spouses): Barbara Lee Platt of Houston, Texas, Karen Jo Hearn and husband Kenneth of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Andrew Burns Platt and wife Debra of Houston, Texas, Lisa Rene Sisney and husband Lynn of Kellyville, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Jon, Melissa, Christoper, Kenny and Charlie Hearn; Cameron and Trenton Sisney. Great grandchildren: Knox and Grace Hearn of Houston, Texas (parents Christopher and Emily Hearn). Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Mollyanne Cypert-Davidson of Ardmore, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Charles E.
