Charles Dewey Sumrall Jr. was the first born child of his loving parents Charles and Marie Sumrall in Altus, OK on September 2, 1932. He was joined almost 6 years later by his rocket scientist brother Phil. Charles loved a good argument, and lettered in debate at Murray State University, graduating in 1956. Charles leaves behind three sons, David, Steve, and Stan and their mother, Betty Skalla; a step son, Ken Crouch of Cambridge, MA; daughter-in-laws Debbie and Ninfa; along with grandchildren Elliott, Whitney, Makenzie, Eric, and Lacie. He was preceded in death by his second wife Donna and step son Danny; his third long-time partner, Ferol Beer, passed in 2016. Always ready with a witticism, bon mot or platitude to fit any occasion, his sons will always remember the wisdom he shared, and feel well prepared to carry on based on his unique understanding and philosophy of life. Some of the pearls he shared include: "Some people would bitch if you hung 'em with a new rope." "You don't have to floss all your teeth, only the ones you want to keep." "The whole world looks yellow to a jaundiced eye." "It's hard to see the picture when you're inside the frame." "I'm so miserable without you it's almost like having you here." We could go on and on, but there's only so many gigabytes of storage available.... A lover of good music, Willie, Waylon, and the boys could often be heard on his playlist--the Red Headed Stranger album was played for him during his final hours to send him off in a good mood. "Some day when we meet up yonder, we'll stroll hand in hand again, In a land that knows no partin', Blue eyes cryin' in the rain." We will miss you Dad, but we'll never forget you.
