Obituary

Claire Louise Naungayan LaPorte, age 81, passed away on January 19, 2024, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. She was born to John Galindo Naungayan and Eleanor "Elena" Jorno on August 17, 1942, in Norwalk, Connecticut.

On September 6, 1962, Claire married Andre LaPorte in Sand Springs, Ok. Together they had a daughter, Shawn Michelle, and son, Russ Andre.

Claire was a Registered Optometric Assistant, working many years in the office of Dr. Mark Manahan in Sand Springs. She was an accomplished seamstress who made many outstanding outfits for family and friends, the most beautiful being the wedding gown she created for her daughter, Shawn.

She belonged to the Sand Springs Quilting Guild and was known for her original designs, several of them being auctioned off to help raise money for local organizations.

Claire loved to travel with her devoted husband, Andre, and they made many trips together in the U.S. and abroad. They would often travel in Andre's "baby car", his Miata convertible! They loved the beautiful scenery of Colorado where Andre's photography skills were utilized.

After retiring, in addition to her sewing and quilting skills, Claire loved to spoil her grandkids; Dylan and Cody LaPorte, and Grace and Cannon Cox. She made a grand Italian Christmas/New Years dinner for her extended family, and all thoroughly enjoyed and looked forward to this event each year.

Claire was a long time volunteer for the Sand Springs Museum, and often repaired the eye glasses for the residents of local nursing homes.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Andre, daughter Shawn Cox (Brian), son Russ (Cammie); four grandchildren, Grace and Cannon Cox, and Dylan (Ashley and great granddaughter, Vera), and Cody LaPorte. Sister, Ellie Costola (Merle Parsons) of Sand Springs, nephews Bret, Greg and Jason Mock and their families, and brother John David Naungayan (Christina) of Elko, Nevada, and their children, Yvonne Michelle (son Josh, Sydney and Oliver) and John Anthony (Marie Block).
