Obituary

Evelyn passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, after a short battle with pneumonia. Evelyn was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to Clara Stack Bebler and Howard Bebler. She was raised in Norfolk, Virginia where she met the love of her life, Sigurd Morris Mathisen, at Granby High School. She attended William and Mary College in Virginia, where she was an active member of the Glee Club. Music (and cats) were a central part of her life, which she shared with her five children. She played many instruments, danced, sang professionally on the radio, and auditioned for the role of Bonnie Blue in the movie "Gone with the Wind.' A promise Morris made to her on their wedding day was "your life with me will never be boring," and it never was. She and Morris started their family in Norfolk, Virginia, moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia and soon to a number of Southern States as Morris built his career in the construction industry. As the older kids were hitting high school and college years, the family moved to Richland, Washington where they lived for seven years, followed by moves to Pryor, Oklahoma; Houston, Texas; and Olympia, Washington. Throughout her life, she was involved in music through the church and community. She enjoyed crafting, and community service, working for many years with Meals on Wheels. Morris and Evelyn retired in Olympia, sold the house and set out on an eleven year journey to discover North America in their RV. A bout of cancer brought the wandering couple back to Collinsville, Oklahoma, which they made their last home. Evelyn is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Morris, their five children and spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren: son Morris Jr, his wife Susie Mathisen, grandchildren Stephen, Stephanie, Melissa, James, Shane, Amber, Patty and six great grandchildren; daughter Debbie and husband George Mellinger, grandchildren Rachel, James and David; daughter Laura Mathisen and husband Larry Sullivan, grandson Colton; daughter Cindy Ouverson and children Scott and wife Christy Ouverson, grandchildren Michael and wife Kelly Ouverson, Kai, Kendal, and great grandchild Kace; Nicole and husband Doug Mader, grandchildren Bailey, Jacob and McKenna; son Bob Mathisen and Laura Reman. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Clara Bebler Jackson Dalby, Howard Bebler, C.L. Jackson, Charles Dalby, son-in-law Larry Ouverson, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
