David L. Abernathy, 61, died unexpectedly December 19, 2013, at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born March 25, 1952, to John and Virginia Abernathy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He attended Tulsa Public Schools, graduating from Memorial High School where he was a National Merit Scholar and played varsity basketball and tennis. He graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a degree in sociology. He then attended the University of Chicago where he received and MBA and completed work for a doctorate sans dissertation. He joined and later became a partner in J. Lloyd Johnson Associates in Brookfield, IL, a medical equipment consulting firm. He later was associated with Stanford Research Institute in Menlo Park, CA. He returned to Tulsa in 1992 and formed Abernathy Associates where he continued to work with medical equipment manufacturers and pharmaceuticals. He is survived by his parents, John and Virginia Abernathy, one brother of Arlington, TX, Mark D. Abernathy, and a close extended family. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 27, at 11:00 a.m., at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 2929 E. 31st. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice.
