Obituary

Douglas Roy Palmer, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6th, at home after a short battle with cancer in Tulsa. A native Tulsan, Douglas was born March 28, 1942, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to A.A. and Elna Palmer. Douglas married his high school sweetheart, June Griffin in 1958 and they had 2 children, Dwayne and Mark. In April 1985 Douglas married Lynda Gibson, they were together for 24 years until her passing. He then met Nancy Dougherty and they have been partners in life over the past 9 years. Douglas graduated Will Rogers High School in 1960. He began working for his father-in-law selling used cars at Griffin Motors. Over the years, he operated his own car business, owned several small planes and other businesses, was a Broken Arrow Police Reserve Officer for 8 years, and most will remember him as a General Contractor where he built over 300 homes in Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Douglas loved to ride motorcycles, travel, dance and spend time with his classmates, friends and family. While he loved to drive or fly, but his favorite way to travel and see the world was on cruises, 33 cruises to be exact. Douglas was a member of the Elks Lodge where he and Nancy shared many happy nights at parties and dancing. Douglas and Nancy spent the last 9 years traveling and enjoying life together. Douglas loved his life and his family. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, his 4 brothers, his son, Dwayne and his wife, Lynda. He is survived by his first wife, June Griffin Watson, and his life partner, Nancy Dougherty; his son, Mark (Toni) Palmer of Bixby and step-son, Mark (Jennifer) Gibson, of Lumberton, TX, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and other nephews, nieces, and cousins. There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering at his home on Saturday, July 21st, 2018 from 11:00am-2:00pm for family and friends to gather to share stories and memories of Douglas.
