Obituary

Emma Marie Harris, lovingly known by all as Marie Harris, passed into eternal rest at the age of 101 on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 9:25 pm. Marie was born March 1, 1912, to James Garfield and Lucy Arvella (McAtee) Forpahl on their farm near Duquoin, Kansas. She always told the story of the day of her birth. The country doctor had two births that day, and he had to travel by horse in a snowstorm to attend both births. She lived the majority of her adult life in Harper or Wichita, Kansas. She always loved visiting her daughter Betty and family in Maine. Marie worked many years for Boeing Aircraft during World War II and the Korean War. She was actually known as one of the "Rosie the Riveters," as she helped build the airplanes "while the boys were off to war." Following her years at Boeing she began her second career as a cook for many rest homes in Wichita and Harper. She owned and ran a small 4 bed nursing home in Harper, Kansas. She received a letter from the President honoring her 100th birthday in March of 2012. She is mother to four children: Betty Ouellette, Roy Lee Harris and wife Judy, Loretta Jo Bursch, and Sharon Grider; Grandmother to: Bobby Joe Niemann and wife Rose, JoAnn Oliver and husband Ty, Sam Bursch and wife Susan, Jimmy Harris and wife Cindy, Cheryl Harris, Kathy Harris, Ronda Seidenberger and husband Steve, Letaza Dutton and husband James, Harlin Hale, David Hale and wife Jennifer; Great- and Great-Great-Grandmother to numerous children. She is a Sister-in-Law to Wilma Forpahl; and Aunt to two nieces: Penny German and Sandra Forpahl. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Lucy and siblings: Raymond E. Forpahl and Roger T. and Zatha Eileen Forpahl; one daughter: Betty Ouellette and son-in-law Al Ouellette; two grandchildren: Doug Daley and Roy Lee (Butch) Harris, Jr.; three nieces: Roberta (Bobbi) Hunter, Helen Forpahl, and Ellen Forpahl; and two beloved pets: Rags and Gidget. Family and friends are invited to a Graveside Memorial Service in her honor at Duquoin Cemetery, Duquoin, Kansas, August 31, 2013, at 11:00 am with a lunch to follow at the Cross Pointe Christian Church, 612 E 12th, Harper, Kansas. Pastor Bruce Smith will be officiating the service. Maries final week was spent at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Clarehouse provided loving, quality end-of-life care to her, and the family will be eternally grateful for all they did for her during her stay. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial donation can be made on her behalf to Clarehouse, 7617 S Mingo, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74133. www.clarehouse.org Gone but never forgotten
