Obituary

Ethel Ann (DuSo) Whitacre Ethel Ann Whitacre was born on April 26, 1927 in Tulsa, OK to Theodore and Anna (Woloszyn) DuSo. She passed to her rest on March 24th, 2020, in Tulsa, due to complications of Congestive Heart Failure. She was a proud, lifelong Tulsan with a true love for her hometown. Ethel grew up during the Great Depression. The difficulty of those times helped her forge an unwavering faith in God, a strong character and a lasting desire to serve others. When Ethel was 13 years old, her father passed away leaving her mother to raise three children on her own. In order to keep the family afloat, Ethel helped her mother run a small home laundry service. Later she was hired as a delivery girl, making deliveries of watch crystals to the downtown Tulsa jewelry stores and watch makers. Ethel graduated with the Tulsa Central High School class of 1945 and soon was employed by the telephone company as a long-distance operator. Anyone that spoke to her on the phone recognized the professional way that she communicated. Through family friends she met Jack Whitacre, and in the early 1950's their relationship grew into a life-long partnership that produced a warm-loving home to their 5 children. In 1964, their partnership expanded, and Ethel joined Jack as he launched Jack Whitacre Glass Company. The initial agreement was for her to "just answer the phone" at the business until he could hire someone to fill the position. But soon she became an integral part of the day-to-day operation and continued to work tirelessly by Jack's side until his death in 2001. Ethel was grounded in her faith in Jesus and was a charter member of Adventist Fellowship Church in Tulsa where she served in various capacities throughout the years. She was always ready with a kind and encouraging word for those around her and was known for warm hugs, smiles and kisses. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Anna DuSo, and two siblings, Wallace DuSo and Dorothy (DuSo) Wimberley. Also preceding her in death was her adoring husband, Jack, stepson, Jon D. Whitacre, and daughter, Gayle Tucker (Mike). She is survived by her daughters, Joni Darmody (Steve) of Ooltewah, Tennessee, and Julie Little (Ron) of Bixby, Oklahoma, and her son, Jackson Whitacre (Jessica) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A Personal note from the family: We wish to thank the caretakers at University Village Assisted Living Center and the staff of Complete Hospice for the love and compassion you showed in taking care of Mom. You are special people…God Bless You. She now sleeps, peacefully awaiting the promised coming of her Savior. legacytouch.com Legacy Touch Code; D2ZHQ9U9
