Eva Priscilla DeCoster Greene, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, the 5th day of June, 2012 at home. 'Pat,' as friends and family knew her, was born Eva Priscilla DeCoster on October 12, 1918 in Quebec, Canada. Her mother was one of nine children, her father one of eight. Pat was raised in a loving and closely-connected family, with two brothers, Robert and Donald, and one sister, Mary, all now deceased. She had a large church family as well. When she was 9 years old, her family settled into a farm in Pownal, Maine. Pat wrote poetry from a young age, and her favorite poet to read and quote throughout her life was Robert Frost, who wrote of the rural New England experience of her time. She graduated from high school in Yarmouth, Maine in 1936, then from Gorham Normal School, now the University of Southern Maine, a few years later. She first taught 5th through 8th grades in a two room schoolhouse in North Conway, New Hampshire, where she and her students often skied to school in winter. Pat married Roy W. Willoughby, a World War II Navy radioman, in 1943, and they were married until his death in 1957. They had added three children, Ann, Lynn and Roy, to their family of four, as 'Red' had two daughters, Janice and Jeannette from a previous marriage. Pat supported her three younger children in the wake of Red's death, working fulltime, while going to school in the evenings and summers, and singing in the church choir at St. Mark's Methodist Church, of which she was a charter member. In this church choir, Pat met her second husband, Harry L. Greene, a native Oklahoman who experienced some of the worst of the Depression in the Oklahoma Panhandle, and an aeronautical engineer and a graduate of Oklahoma AM (OSU). They were married in 1960. Pat graduated from the University of Tulsa in 1962 and began teaching Spanish and French at Edison and later went back to TU to earn an additional major in English, which she taught at Memorial High School. Teaching was a great passion for Pat for the next twenty years. Then, following retirement, and although she had always created beautiful 'hand work,' (knitting and crocheting many afghans and sweaters for family) she began to quilt, and this became a love of Pat's . She added volunteering as a retirement pastime, along with traveling and time with family. Her family and friends will remember Pat for her skillful blending of three families, based on intelligence, love and acceptance of people, and a vibrant sense of humor and hospitality. They will remember her love of travel, of the arts , and especially her love of poetry. Many have savored long and interesting letters from her, as she corresponded extensively with family and friends in several states and three continents. She is survived by her husband Harry, whom she loved dearly, and her children, Janice Roberts of Kissimmee, Florida, Jeannette Harper of Arlington, Texas, Ann Schlabach (Bill) of Aztec, New Mexico, Lynn Rivers (Fred Pottorf ) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Roy Greene of Farmington, New Mexico, Marilyn Greene Cummings (Kenneth), of Stockton, New Jersey, and Leon Greene (Judy) of Bellingham, Washington, thirteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15th at 10:30am at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 10513 East Admiral Place, Tulsa, reception following.
