Obituary

Colonel Fred Sigel Grutze, Jr. US Army/Retired. Born November 22, 1919 in Portland, Oregon to Fred and Edith Grutze. Died June 1, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Fred married Marian Brackett on August 31, 1941. Marian passed away in 2004. Fred and Marian had two children: Glen and wife KC Marie of Tulsa, Oklahoma and David and late wife Leslie Ray of Rockton, Illinois. Grandchildren: Randy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Austin of Moline, Illinois and Alissa of Rockton, Illinois. Fred grew up in Portland, Oregon graduating from Franklin High School as class president in 1937. After school, Fred was an active member in the boy scouts, DeMolay, and the Masons. He worked for the Fred Meyer Department Store before enlisting in the Army after the Pearl Harbor attack. Fred went to officer's training school and served in the China, Burma, and India Pacific campaign in WWII also serving two tours in Vietnam. Colonel Grutze received many medals and commendations during his twenty-six year army career. Fred retired in Dallas and lived there for over thirty years. He was a longtime volunteer for meals-on-wheels and served on many boards, including D.A.R.C. and C.D.C. Fred was an officer and a gentleman, proud, tough and respectful. He was a great husband, father, and man. Colonel Fred Grutze will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date. Please leave a condolence in the online guestbook below.
