Obituary

Gene Edward Woodward, age 82, long time resident of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, passed away on July

22nd, 2023 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born December 13, 1940 to Arnold and Marjorie Woodward.

Gene was a brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Gwen; sons, Robert

and Ronnie; daughter, Robin; stepson Julius and stepdaughter, Tanesia; grandchildren, Amy, Aaron,

Shambrala, Andrea and Jamison; great-grandson, Braden; goddaughter, Taneshea; brother, Jerry and

sisters, Wilma, Donna and Terri as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marjorie and Arnold.

Shortly after high school, Gene joined the Marines and proudly served his country. Upon leaving the military, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he married and his three children were born. While in Denver, he worked for the State of Colorado Highway Department as a supervisor for the road maintenance crew. Eventually, he decided to move back to Broken Arrow to be closer to family. He remained in Broken Arrow where he raised his children and worked various jobs until he was able to build a successful business as a heavy machinery and backhoe operator. He did jobs for many contractors and individuals all over Broken Arrow, Tulsa and the surrounding areas.

Gene was a man of many stories and he was not shy about telling his stories to friends and family. He loved animals and had a horse and many dogs and cats over the years. His hobby was collecting cars and trucks and various other vehicles and interesting things.

Gene was a man of integrity, and was known to always do the right thing and stand up for what he believed in. He was a man with simple taste and could usually be seen in his overalls and hat, even when he remarried in 2017 to wife Gwen. Even though they took their time to tie the knot, they were together for 23 happy years.

Gene was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family and friends. He was a man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, protect, support and love will be forever engrained in all he knew.

A memorial reception will take place at the home of their dear friend in Broken Arrow, Ok at 2:00 on Saturday July 29th, 2023.
