George William Carter, 98, of Tulsa, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023 at the Montereau retirement community.

Born in Muskogee, OK on December 19, 1924, George was the fourth of five children born to Von and Ella Carter. He graduated from Muskogee Central HS in May of 1943 and two months later joined the US Army. George was stationed in Iceland for much of his enlistment. Following an honorable discharge from the army, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. In July of 1948 George married Barbara J. Burkett, also of Muskogee, OK; a marriage that lasted seventy years until her death in 2018.

George retired from BP (and predecessor companies Standard Oil (IN), Amoco Oil and Tuloma Gas Products) after more than thirty years of service. During his career, he worked both in Tulsa and Chicago.

George and Barbara's marriage produced two sons, George Jr. (Debbie) of Colleyville, TX and Robert (Gina) of Naperville, IL, along with seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

George will be remembered most fondly for his love of his family, his honesty, integrity and his respect for others.

The family would like to express thanks to the Chateau (Two North) nursing staff at Montereau where George spent the last years of his life following Barbara's death.

Arrangements will be handled by Cremation Society of Oklahoma - Tulsa, and services will be private.
