Hannah Jo Toothaker Bass was born February 18, 1925 to Helen and Lauren Toothaker in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Hannah passed away peacefully on April 17, 2017 at St. Simeon's Episcopal Home in Tulsa. She and the late Calvin G. Bass married on January 1, 1946. An Air force wife for thirty years, she faithfully cared for Calvin and their three children in the Philippines, Arizona, Texas, California, England, Colorado, Kansas, Hawaii and Oklahoma. Hannah served as president of the Officers Wives' Club in High Wycombe, England, and in Topeka, Kansas. She also served as treasurer in Topeka and Hawaii. She organized and served as president of the Femmes Forum a toastmistress organization in Topeka. In Tulsa as a pilot, she was a 30 year member of the Antique Airplane Association, recorded books for the Blind and Physically Handicapped for the Library of Congress and Recording Volunteers of Tulsa. She served the Tulsa Audubon Society and presented many bird slide programs. She was a member of the Kirk of the Hills Sanctuary Guild. In recent years she enjoyed writing about her aviation and many interesting life experiences. Hannah is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Janet E. Garlow (Stephen) of Lawrence, Kansas and Julia Nan Bass, of Marquette, Michigan, and her son, James L. Bass (Kim), of Tulsa. She is also survived by five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Calvin, and her sister, Marti Hefti of California. Memorial service will be on May 8, at 11 AM, at Fort Gibson National Cemetery.
