Homer Lewis "Pug" Coats of Salina was born in Strang, Oklahoma, on July 13, 1927 to Thomas Milton and Grace Macy Stephens Coats. He lived his entire life in Mayes County, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the age of 92.
In March of 1945, Pug joined the U.S. Navy, and served until July of 1946. He worked on the pipeline over the next few years, which took him across the U.S. He then worked at the Carbide plant until he purchased a small gas station and bait shop in Salina in 1960. He ran this business until his retirement in 1980.
In 1953, Pug married Imogene Martindale. To their union was born one son, David Lee. David blessed him and Imogene with two grandsons who gave them years of joy and adventure.
Pug was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and his wife of 55 years. He leaves behind his son, David and wife Darla of Salina, grandson Carl and wife Rebekah of Tahlequah, grandson Joshua and wife Abigail of Fairbanks, Alaska, two great granddaughters Addison Grace and Emilia Kathryn of Tahlequah, numerous nieces and nephews and friends who will miss him greatly.
The family will hold a memorial service in Pug's honor at a later date.
