Howard Richard Rettig, a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at the age of 84.
Howard was born on Saturday, June 03, 1939 in Phillipston, PA to the late Charles and Grace Rettig. He was raised in Pennsylvania and later in New York, after the family moved to Niagara Falls, NY. He graduated from Bishop Duffy High School before joining the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flat, OK where he met the love of his life Vera (Joyce) Rettig. They were married for 61 years.
Howard was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with 36 years of service, and then retired from The University of Tulsa Engineering Department with 15 years of service.
He leaves his legacy of faith, love for family and strong work ethics to his daughters and grandchildren. His hobbies were watching sports on TV with his wife and family, fixing things around the house and spending time relaxing on the back porch. He will be remembered for giving the best bear hugs and his favorite saying "save your money".
Howard is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Grace Rettig, brother Charles Robert Rettig, sisters Shirley McGlynn and Sandy Bryant and grandson Jimmie Richard Hastings.
Howard is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife Vera Rettig, four daughters Mary Williams, Ann Wharton, Cathy Hastings and husband Darrell, Susan Snell and husband Allan, sister Joann Horoschak and husband Steve; grandchildren Misty Travis, April Tooahimpah and husband Dennie, Marc Wharton, Laura Wharton, Samuel Rettig, Elizabeth Wharton, Jennifer Saunders and husband William, Christian Hastings, Dalton Hastings; great grandchildren Austin Travis, Joshua Tooahimpah, Abbygail Travis, Andi Travis, Bruce Saunders, Remiel Tooahimpah, Talon Saunders, Lillian Saunders and host of family members.
