Obituary

Jack Paul Fanning, age 55 passed away from this life on October 6, 2014 in Tulsa. Jack was born September 7, 1959 to John Raymond and Elizabeth Isabelle (Biskner) Fanning in Tulsa. Jack graduated from Tulsa Edison High School in 1978, where he was a standout on both the football and wrestling teams. For the last 25 years he has made his home in Kansas City. Jack was a true sports fanatic. He was a lover of sports of any kind and was a walking encyclopedia of sports trivia. He made his living as a sporting goods representative, selling to high schools and colleges throughout the Midwest. Every March he could be spotted at the NCAA Wrestling Tournament. Saturday afternoons he was rooting for the Fighting Irish and Sundays saw him screaming for or at the St. Louis Rams, depending on the score. Over the last two years he has been an active participant in the rebuilding of the Edison High School wrestling program, giving of his time and treasures. Ten minutes after meeting Jack, people felt like he was their best friend. He never met a stranger and always made you feel that he was glad to see you and hear what you had to say. Jack was the youngest son of Betty and John Fanning, who both preceded him in death. He was beloved by his brother Jeff and wife Patti, brother Mike, and sister Linda Wilborn and husband Troy. His nine nieces and nephews were always excited when he came to town, and will have legendary tales to tell his five grandnieces and nephews of time spent with "Uncle Jack". The two loves of his life were his dog, Molly, and his beautiful vacation home on Lake Spavinaw. Memorial services are being held Saturday, October 11, 2014 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Cathedral.
