David was born in McAlester, OK and grew up in Broken Arrow, OK. He was a member of the 1969 graduating class of Broken Arrow High School.
David had a passion for music from an early age and taught himself guitar by playing along with the classic tunes of the '60s. He started playing in bands in high school with performances of classic rock at the Broken Arrow Armory.
Shortly after high school, David moved to Albuquerque, NM where he learned his ultimate trade as an apprentice electrician. He continued his music career in Albuquerque playing in local venues throughout the region. David returned to Tulsa in 1978 to be with his Mom and family as she battled cancer. In Tulsa he continued his career as an electrician establishing Third Wave Electric Co.
David was known throughout the arts community in Tulsa as not only a performing musician, but an ardent supporter of the arts especially American Theater Company, the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival and local Jazz. His guitar skills, natural stage presence and sense of humor were known to many. Throughout his life in Tulsa he played in many local venues and hosted many parties, notably his "Cinco de Mayo" birthday celebrations.
David earned a bachelor's degree from NSU and a master's degree from OSU. He was a politically active, dedicated Democrat starting with effort to stop the Black Fox Nuclear Power plant in the late 70's through recent social justice protests in Tulsa. David was an original member of Church of the Restoration UU in Tulsa. His friends and family know him not only as a talented musician but an intelligent, thoughtful man, always interested in sharing conversation.
David will be remembered as always having a smile and warm words for the people in his life. He will be missed.
David is survived by three brothers, Michael Bell, wife Jenny; Randall Bell, wife Sharon and Patrick Bell, wife Michelle. He was also the proud uncle/great uncle of Lyndee, Christopher, Patrick, Sara, Laura and Craig and their children.
