Obituary

James Michael Bowen, 41, of Bristow, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, December 13th at OU Medical Center in Edmond. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Jimmy was born in Bristow to Michael and Joyce Bowen on November 15, 1979. He attended Bristow Public Schools before working at Kwikset. He then went back to school, earning his Associate Degree from Tulsa Community College. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences, then his Master of Science in Soil Science at Oklahoma State University. He graduated with honors from both colleges and was a member of multiple honor societies. His research focused on the spatial variability of soil phosphorus critical thresholds in agricultural systems. He co-authored Design and Construction of Phosphorus Removal Structures for Improving Water Quality in 2018. He was also the co-creator of the Phrog (Phosphorus Removal Online Guidance) software program. Jimmy attended multiple conferences and presented his findings in various states and in Denmark. He was pursuing his PhD in plant and soil sciences with a concentration in soil fertility from the University of Kentucky. He had decided to take a break and come home to Bristow. He was beginning the process of becoming a certified science teacher at the time of his death. In his free time Jimmy enjoyed playing video games, reading, playing Dungeons and Dragons, cooking, and gardening. He also loved spending time with his family. He had a tremendous heart and an amazing sense of humor. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Wayne and Lois Bowen, and maternal grandparents Frank and Theda Gilreath. He is survived by his parents, Mike and Joyce Bowen of Bristow, sister Lisa (Tomas) Wada of Bristow, sister Jeannie (Jeff) Kinney of Flagstaff, AZ, niece Emily Wheeler of Bristow, nephew Daniel Wheeler of Bristow, cousin and friend, Tony Aguilera of Bristow, friend Clint (Shawna) O'Dell of Haskell, and a host of family and friends who loved him.
