James Douglas McCourt passed from this life peacefully and with family at his side early in the morning of April 25th at his home in Tulsa. He was born to James and Beatrice on March 20, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY. Jim was a hot rodder and a sailor, at ease behind a V8 or on the water. Serving the US Navy from '56-60, he was a proud plankowner aboard the destroyer USS Decatur DD936. Jim moved to Tulsa in 1971 and married his wife Cathy in 1973. Together they fixed up and raced Corvettes as part of the Tulsa Vette Set. Dad became the gold standard of fatherhood with the birth of his son Greg. Jim was a successful small business owner, starting Mid Continent Epoxy in 1984 and retiring from Marin, Inc in 2009. His pride and joy was being "Papa" to his granddaughters Addy, Marin and Collins. Jim is survived by his wife, son, granddaughters, sister Karen Kreitmayr, daughter-in-law Valerie, and many cherished cousins, nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Monday May 6th at 2:00 PM, South Tulsa Baptist Church.
