Joan Marie (Ostrowski) McCleary, age 87, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2022, at Porta Caeli House in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rosary will be 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2022 and Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022 both at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic church. She is survived by son Michael John McCleary of Woodstock, Illinois; son Mathew Joseph McCleary and wife JoAnn of Oak Harbor, Washington; daughter Mary Jo Speaker and husband John Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and son Mark Jerome McCleary and wife Kathleen of Racine, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Raven, Joseph, Thomas, Sean, Brennan and Bryson; four great-grandchildren, Eli, Alexandria, Austin, and Theodore; and sister Veronica Ostrowska of Germantown, New York. She is preceded in death by her husband John Edward McCleary and parents Joseph and Veronica Ostrowski.

Joan was born on August 25, 1935 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from Central Catholic High School and Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. In 1989, she earned Bachelor of Science degree from Our Lady of Holy Cross College in New Orleans. Joan's nursing career spanned more than 60 years with the majority as a RN Certified Diabetes Educator. She was recognized with the Great 100 Nurse award. She retired in 2012 from Hillcrest Center for Diabetes Management.

After moving to Tulsa, Joan was an active member at St. Bernard of Clairvaux and St. Mary's Catholic church. She was an active volunteer at OSU-COM Senior Mentor Program, Porta Caeli House, Tulsa District Council of Catholic Women, Serra Club of Tulsa, American Diabetes Association, and the University Village Retirement Community. She enjoyed music, theater, traveling, flower gardening, reading, and University of Tulsa athletics.
