IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joellen (Jodie)
Janzen
June 27, 1950 – July 1, 2025
Joellen (Jodie) Janzen, 75, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025 as she transitioned from this world to be with her Heavenly Father. She was fortunate to be able to see all of her family and many friends before starting this journey.
She was born on June 27th, 1950, in Tulsa, OK to Maxine and Keith Fern, who were loving parents to eventually 3 children. She graduated from Tulsa Will Rogers High School in 1968 and quickly began her almost 30-year tenure with several banks in the Tulsa metropolitan area, including NBT, Utica Bank, and Bank of Oklahoma. She transitioned from the banking/trust industry to various positions within operations in the petroleum industry before retiring from Riggs, Abney Law, Neal law firm in Tulsa, OK. Until the farm life came calling later in life, she was active in work leagues for softball and bowling (where she had a very respectable average over the years and a trademark "straight as an arrow" bowling delivery).
Although she was a wiz at many things (Math and crocheting especially), her greatest skill in life might have been being a mom. If she wasn't running from one set of soccer fields to one another across town (for most of the 1980's and early 90's), she was spending time with her kids outside, doing a puzzle, sharing family history, playing dice/cards, or just being present. Her kids could sometimes drive her a little crazy, but she was never one to take too much time for herself, always prioritizing her kids' and eventually grandkids' wants and needs. Over her parenting years, she would do whatever it took to ensure her kids had all of the necessary and sometimes unnecessary supplies to be successful. This sometimes meant working 2 or 3 jobs to financially provide this lifestyle to them. It did not go unnoticed, and was always appreciated!
It took much of her life, but she and Steve were able to realize her dream of living in the country almost 30 years ago they moved from Skiatook to a beautiful piece of land outside Bristow. Here she could live out her childhood dreams of being on a farm away from the hustle of city life, just like her beloved Aunt Vera and Uncle Andy. She made the most of this opportunity with them being innkeepers to horses, cows, pigs, geese, peacocks(!), dogs, every variety of chickens on earth, a pony, and even an emu for a short stint. The grandchildren especially loved the guided tours with their Grandma Jodie to feed the chickens and other animals. Many memories were built from those feedings and tours of the land. Memories that will last lifetimes!
Besides taking care of her beloved animals and gardens on the farm, she enjoyed listening to and dancing to the oldies (both country and rock) with Steve. She looked forward to all the holidays and decorating (or telling Steve how to decorate) for Christmas was a thrill of hers for many years. If you were a family member or friend, you could also count on getting at least one artfully crafted and beautiful crocheted items for Christmas or your birthday each year. She reignited the old family holiday gatherings once hosted by her parents, to start hosting Thanksgiving once she moved to her farm almost 30 years ago. Finally, she loved to play games, often telling her kids she'd have to call them back later because her and Steve were in an intense game of cards or dice with friends at their house.
She was always a family-first person who did what she needed to do support her family. She was an amazing daughter, sister, niece, mother, aunt, and grandmother to countless family members over the years. Notably, taking over as host for our family's Thanksgiving celebration 30 years ago that brought family members from all over the US to make their way to her welcoming home in Bristow. This 30-year tradition was only moved to her son Ron's home in past couple of years as her health made it more challenging to fulfill the cooking and hosting for so many family members and friends.
Jodie was preceded in death by her mother and father, Maxine and Keith Fern; her aunt and uncle Vera and Andy Summerlin. She is survived by her husband, Steve Janzen; sister Ruth Ann and husband Wayne Hibbard (Tulsa), brother Bill and wife Bonnie Fern (Jenks); children Ron and wife Rachel Campbell (Sand Springs); James Campbell (Olathe, KS); Niki and husband Jeremy Hicks (Drumright); Stevie and wife (Crystal) (Drumright); Jamie (Brewton, AL); grandchildren Maxine and Duncan Campbell (Olathe); Lauren and Emily Campbell (Sand Springs); Hadley Mincks (Drumright); Kylee and Lauren Janzen (Drumright); Dayanara, Keith, Lyndsi, and David Janzen; niece Kim Hibbard (Broken Arrow); nephews Kevin Hibbard (Tulsa); Bill Fern (Dyer, IN); grandnieces Abriana and husband Trystan Slinker (Corsicana, TX), Camryn and husband Paydon Harper (Broken Arrow), Emma Sumner (Broken Arrow).
She will be missed immeasurably by all who knew her, but she remains in our heart and minds forever, guiding us with the principles and morals she instilled in us over the years. Her crocheted blankets, clothing, pillows and stuffed animals will be kept and cherished for many years to come. She is now at peace and cheering us on from above. We love you mom and Grandma Jodie for all time!
