Obituary

John Dean Ransom, also known as Jay, JD, Uncle J, Gramps and Daddy, moved on to his next chapter at age 95, on March 26, 2020. His long life began in Sand Creek, OK, September 28, 1924. He did a stint in the Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his service, he became a mailman in Wichita, married Marilyn White and settled in Derby, KS. Marilyn agreed to put him through college and he completed his college degree on the GI Bill then began teaching science/biology at Derby Senior High School. He then went on to Oklahoma State University to receive his doctorate then began his tenure at Emporia State College as biology professor. They had an early and colorful retirement so their silence in our lives today seems especially loud. He loved a good story, to tell or to listen; biscuits and gravy, football, politics, RVs and peanut clusters. Marilyn preceded him in death in 2013. His parents, John and Lucinda Belle Ransom also preceded him as did a sister, Jean Betts. He is survived by daughters, Diane Moreno of Wichita and Jackie Green of Nashville, TN; granddaughter Denise Anderson of Wichita [Rudy Villerreal] and grandson Devren Anderson of Sioux Falls, SD [Cynthia Anderson]; and great grandson Reese Anderson and great granddaughter Grace Anderson. Also survived by sisters FloraBelle Guthrie, Wakita, OK; Donna Fisher, Simi Valley, CA; Orma Paino, Joshua Tree, CA; and brothers Cliff Ransom of Ridgecrest, CA and Gary Ransom of Bountiful, UT. There are numerous nieces and nephews, cousins. A memorial will be held at a later time. Photo was taken on his 95th birthday where he stood and spoke for an hour about his life. He was a good man.
