John Berryman Woods, 101, of Broken Arrow, OK, passed away on October 19, 2023. He was born on November 8, 1921 in Drumright, OK. In 1939.
John completed his high school education at Central High School in Tulsa, OK. He attended Oklahoma State University (formerly known as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College), ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a specialization in Industrial Engineering in 1949.
John rose through the ranks to attain the rank of Captain in the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction during World War II. His duties included piloting C-46 and C-47 aircraft, primarily responsible for transporting essential supplies and caring for wounded personnel. Following his commendable military service, he received an honorable discharge in June 1957.
For several decades, John dedicated his career to engineering, with a strong emphasis on precision machining and the manufacturing of oil field equipment.
In his youth, John had a deep passion for fishing, piloting and exploring aircraft, and immersing himself in various engineering projects and patents. Upon retiring, he dedicated his time to mentoring and supporting individuals on their path to recovery from addiction. John was known for his reserved and contemplative nature, finding joy in life's simple pleasures. He cherished reminiscing about his service in the Air Force, cherished the 16 years he spent with his wife, Linda, and relished the moments spent playing with his beloved dog, Lucky.
John is survived by his wife, Linda Stephens, who spent the last three years being a loving, full-time caregiver to John.
John is also survived by his stepson, Christopher Stephens, daughter-in-law, September Boles, and his three children.
The funeral will be a private ceremony with only close family members present.
