IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy Carol
Hammons
July 2, 1956 – August 3, 2025
Judy Carol Hammons (Chambers), 69, left this Earth on August 3, 2025. Judy was a proud, long-time midtown Tulsa resident who spent her final days on the porch, laughing and visiting with her family.
She is survived by her two loving daughters, Brandy Hammons and Lindsay Sparks, both of Tulsa, and the light of her life — her granddaughter, Preslee.
Judy worked for American Airlines Inc. for 25 years where she made many travel buddies and good friends. A highlight of her career was the opportunity to travel extensively for both work and pleasure. She shared this love of travel with her daughters, taking them to places they had only dreamed of. In adulthood, they returned the favor, taking her to some pretty amazing destinations in return.
She once had a brief stint as a Campfire leader — not her strongest role, but she gave it her best. In the late '80s, she dyed her hair blonde and never lived it down. In the '00s, she decided to join PFLAG but quickly changed her mind upon learning she'd need to participate in group activities, not just write donation checks.
After retiring, she explored new artistic mediums, creating works that will be treasured by her family for years to come. She also formed a cherished network of friends at her Florence Park condo, where courtyard parties were frequent — whether there was a reason or not.
Judy loved traveling so much that her phone contained a list of destinations she visited — light on details but ending with the memorable phrase, "I want my old passport back, damn it." Her list included:
Hawaii (x2–5): Mom and Dad took secret trips there without telling us; we only found out as adults. NO FAIR. This was her only U.S. destination listed, perhaps just to rub it in.
International travel (incomplete but impressive): England, Belgium, Germany, Italy, India, Portugal, Morocco, China, Hong Kong, Japan, France, Spain, Canary Islands, Mexico.
Following her trip to India in 2011, she wrote the following on a trip blog post, "I am so grateful for all that I have and may I never again wish for more than I need."
Judy raised her children on big vacations — always by airplane, never by road trip. Together, she, her daughters, and her granddaughter visited: Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Seattle, WA; New York, NY; Las Vegas, NV; Washington, DC; Sedona, AZ; New Orleans, LA; Mammoth Cave National Park, KY; and more. She created memories in each place that will be cherished.
She'll be remembered for her quick wit, adventurous spirit, and deep love for her family — and for her belief that life was meant to be fully lived, preferably with a suitcase in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
