Karen Ruth Simmons, 78, of Catoosa, Oklahoma, went to be with her Lord on December 17, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Mrs. Simmons was born on March 19, 1941 in Inglewood, California.
Karen had a PhD in Pastoral Counseling, of which she spent much time counseling members of her church and community. She loved spending time with her family as well as kayaking, sandy beaches, and blessing others. Karen mentored many people throughout her years, and they held a special place in her heart. She worked as an Administrative Assistant with Forest Hills and Heather Ridge Assisted Living Centers. Karen was blessed by all the residents she came to know and love. She was loved by all who came to know her.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Goldie and Ora Kirby, Roseville, IL; father, Alvin Wellington Shaw I, originally of Neosho, MO; mother, Ruth Daisy Shaw, originally of Neosho, MO; and great-granddaughter, Esther Ruth Paiva, of Norman, Oklahoma.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, James Robert Simmons, of the home, sister, Lois McDonald, brother, Alvin Shaw II, daughter, Wendi Crace and son-in-law, Brad Crace, son, Aaron Simmons and daughter-in-law, Trish Simmons, grandchildren: Josh Bushyhead, Amanda Paiva and husband, Derek Paiva, Maegan Johnson, Jacob Bushyhead and wife, Aubrey Bushyhead, Kimberly Muller and husband, Chris Muller, Madison Simmons, Levi Simmons, Brady Simmons, and Alison Simmons; great-grandchildren: Declan Bushyhead, Elias Paiva, Amos Paiva, Petra Paiva, Parker Johnson, Charolette Johnson, Emma Bushyhead, Avery Quesada, and Graceyn Quesada; and many extended family, church family, and friends.
A celebration of life for Mrs. Simmons will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020, 6:00 p.m., at Harvest Church, 91st and Main Street, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
