Karren Drysdale passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 11, 2022, at the age of 77. She was born on May 6, 1944, to William and Bernice Drysdale in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Karren's family moved to Syracuse, NY in 1957, where Karren participated with her twin sister Sharon in as many sports as were available to girls at that time. Since they were identical, Karren also participated in tricking people by pretending to be Sharon.
Karren earned a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education from SUNY Brockport, a M.A. degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Karren started out as a high school teacher and coach, even coaching a boy's swim team. Moving to the college level, Karren coached softball and taught at Kent State University during the 1970 shootings, and later did the same at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.
Making a career change at the age of 35, Karren became a hospital administrator at Aurora Community Hospital in Aurora, MO. Deeply involved with the Aurora Community Hospital Auxiliary, Karren received the Auxiliary Highest Award of Recognition in 2005 for her 24 years of service to that group.
Although the Canadian native proudly became an American citizen in 1993, hockey remained her favorite sport. With a life-long interest in sports, Karren competed in basketball, swimming and synchronized swimming at the collegiate level. She also competed in ASA women's major fast pitch softball and tournament slow pitch softball and was an avid fan of the Northwestern University "Cats" softball team.
Karren was a tournament bowler and enjoyed Tai chi with her friends in Joplin, as well as fishing, cooking, and reading fantasy novels. Her interest in collecting led her to join the Tulsa Antiques & Bottle Club and the Tulsa Area Marble Club.
Karren is survived by her twin sister Sharon Drysdale, her brother Douglas Drysdale and his wife Renee, niece Melissa and family, nephew Jeremy and family, the Laurel Gorman family, cherished friend Mickey Cross and family, the Larson/Daniels families, and many very close friends.
