Obituary

Katherine Robinson, of Claremore, OK, passed away on Saturday, January 7 at Clarehouse hospice in Tulsa, OK. She was closer to 91 than 90 and although her heart was worn out, her mind and spirit were still strong. She was born in 1926 in Akins, a small town that no longer exists, not far from Sallisaw, OK. She came from a country life and a time very different from our lives today. In that time and place, people worked hard physically all day, everyday except on Sundays. There was not much money to go around but her father always provided the necessities at a time when many people could not. Her mother worked tirelessly to provide a clean home in a time when doing laundry took all day because you used your hands, a bucket of water and a washboard. Kat, as she was known growing up, was the third oldest of 7 children, survived only by her youngest sibling. She was a quiet child and would often choose to read a book over other activities. That habit did not change throughout the her years. She would sometimes read the same book multiple times if she felt at home within it. Katherine had artistic ability that she expressed from time to time. Over the years, she used a variety of materials and techniques, mostly self-taught. She enjoyed oil painting, pen and ink drawing and cross-stitching. She often painted portraits of friends and family as surprise gifts for them. Her creativity always found a way to express itself. She lived in Tulsa, OK for the largest part of her life and raised two daughters. She worked outside the home all her adult life during a time when women were mostly expected to be homemakers. She retired from the Bureau of Land Management, previously U.S. Geological Survey, as a Geologist Assistant after 30 years of service. She loved to garden in her later years and kept adding new plants to her collection. She loved to feed the birds and to watch them play everyday on her porch. Her favorites were the numerous hummingbirds and mockingbirds that visited often. If there are birds in heaven, surely they will all be there to greet her. Survived by her daughters, Tehra (Taylor) Eidenmuller and Carla Robinson; sister, Faye Eccles; grandson, Sean Coale and great-granddaughter Jade Coale. Predeceased by her parents, Ova Lena (Cone) Rogers and Alexander Rogers; siblings, Clinton Rogers, Ova Minardi, Margie Dickson, Fred Rogers, Bernice Widner and husbands, Edward Taylor and Carl Robinson. Memorial services will be Friday, January 20 at 4:00pm at Claremore Praise Fellowship, 21205 S. 4120 Rd (1/4 mile south of Hwy 20 on 4120 Rd) in Claremore, OK. The service will be officiated by Pastor Simon Ratcliff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine's name to Clarehouse hospice at www.clarehouse.org.
