IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth
Reagan
January 23, 1932 – August 19, 2024
Kenneth Burren Reagan was born in Ft. Worth, Texas on January 23, 1932, to Ernest Parks Reagan and Audrye Burren Reagan. When Kenneth was three years old the family moved to Texarkana, Arkansas, where Kenneth attended elementary and high school. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Navy. Two years later, he decided to give up the Navy and attend college at the University of Arkansas majoring in science education. After graduation, he taught chemistry for a year in Arkansas and then joined the US Army beginning a long career in service to his country. He was accepted to Officer Candidate School and commissioned as a second lieutenant into the active army. He was deployed to Korea during the bitter cold of a Korean winter. Hot showers were reserved for Officers only, however, Kenneth insisted that hot showers should be made available also for the enlisted men as well. This is just one example of Kenneth's kindness. He served in Korea for a year.
After Korea, he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and then Ft. Bliss, Texas. His educational background in science and math lead to his training as an Army Missile Battery Commander. Following this training, he became a Commander of a missile base in SW Germany, an hour south of Kaiserslautern.
Kenneth met Rosemary Feemster during his college years at the University of Arkansas, a romance that continued long distance during his service commitment. They were married in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967, where Rosemary taught high school English. Rosemary then joined Kenneth in Germany. His next assignment was to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, as commander of a missile base directly across from Baltimore on the Chesapeake Bay for a year. After this assignment, he was stationed at Ft. Meade, Maryland. Shortly thereafter he was deployed to the Mekong Delta area of Vietnam. While in Vietnam he earned four Bronze Stars. He was also awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Vietnam Action Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After Vietnam, he was stationed in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona for 3 years. He completed his final seven years of military service in the US Army Reserves. In the Army Reserves, he retired at the rank of major. He then became certified in Biomedical Instrumentation and began a second career at the Veterans Medical Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he worked until he retired. Kenneth received several commendations for innovative appropriation of machines. This literally saved the VA millions of dollars.
Kenneth and Rosemary had three children; Ernest Jeffery Reagan, Kathleen Reagan, and Sharon Gail Reagan, who married Jason Kallas. They have one daughter Anna Kallas, Kenneth's only grandchild. She is a delight that brightened Kenneth's smile. After their children were grown and moved away, Kenneth and Rosemary raised two foster children, when they were in their 60's - Johnny Childress and Troy Stroble. While living in Muskogee Kenneth became a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a faithful member of the Wesley class at First United Methodist Church.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Parks Reagan and Audrye Reagan, and his two older brothers John H. and Robert Leander Reagan. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, his three children Jeff, Kathleen, and Gail, his son-in-law Jason, granddaughter Anna, Kenneth's sister Nancy Gail Reagan, and sister-in-law Alice Reagan, wife of Robert Reagan. He also has several nieces and nephews.
During these last few years when people would ask Kenneth how he was, despite his failing health, he would reply FANTASTIC! To Kenneth, there were three codes of ethics; service to country, service to God, service to family, and public service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave, 16th Floor, New York, New York, 10001 or charity of your choice.
