Hoar, Larry A. , age 88, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, following a fall in his home. He passed peacefully, surrounded by family.
He was a US Air Force veteran and a life-long educator, beginning teaching in Long Beach, CA, and continuing on Guam, Micronesia; at the American School in Japan, Tokyo, Japan; and in Tulsa, OK where he taught at Nathan Hale High School for several decades and as an adjunct at TJC/TCC. Upon retiring he volunteered for over 20 years in the curatorial department at Tulsa Historical Society and Museum. He was a member of All Souls Unitarian Church, Tulsa and was a former member of Hope Unitarian where he served on numerous committees including building site selection and architectural design committee.
Larry was pre-deceased by his parents mother Gwendolyn B. Hoar, step father Russell Hoar, biological father Frank Milton, and granddaughter Mercy Buttle.
Survived by wife Joan W. Hoar, of the home; daughter Karen E. Buttle (David), Claremore; grandchildren Samuel Buttle (Sarah), Broken Arrow ; Abigail Buttle (Doug Mackey), Oxfordshire, England; Benjamin, Stephen, Kerenza, and great granddaughter Lydia Buttle. Also survived by brother Rusty Hoar (Cheryl) Oregon, and numerous extended family. Larry will be remembered by many friends and former students who held him in high regard.
Private family Services were held in the Memorial Garden at All Souls Unitarian Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma on Friday December 6.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Tulsa Historical Society and Museum.
