Obituary

Lonnie Gerald Green went home to Jesus on October 7, 2021 at the age of 83. Lonnie was born to Daniel Hamilton and Edna Gertrude Sims Green on February 10, 1938 in Titanic, OK. His grandparents were Andrew Jackson and Annie C. Logsdon Self Green and Henry Ruth and Dora Bloom Coiner Sims. Lonnie's family moved to Cincinnati, Arkansas where his brother Ira was born in 1941 and then they moved to Lincoln, Arkansas where his youngest brother David was born in 1945. Lonnie attended school in Cincinnati and Lincoln. Lonnie did so well in school that he was allowed to skip the 2nd grade. Then in 1948 Lonnie moved to Claremore, OK. He attended Claremore schools and later received a GED diploma. Lonnie met the love of his life, Alice Bernice "Mickey" Nelms, in Claremore, OK. The two were married on May 7, 1954 in Pryor, OK. Lonnie told a friend at the age of 13 when he saw Bernice for the first time while walking in town that he was going to marry that beautiful Cherokee girl. Lonnie and Bernice spent the next 55 years side-by-side until Bernice's passing in 2009. Lonnie was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States of America as a SP4 with commendations. They raised two daughters, Kathy and Lesa, in Claremore while Lonnie worked at Gateway Luggage and Danhuser. He also worked in construction, mechanics and upholstery. In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband, brother, uncle, Juicy Fruit Man, Daddy, and Grampsy Boy, Lonnie was a soldier, master mechanic, accomplished musician, carpenter, mender of broken things, expert clock/watch repairman, successful gardner, and collector of everything. Many describe Lonnie as being able to do anything, and do it well. He was truly a "Lonnie of all trades, and master of all". Above all, his most cherished pastime was spending time with his family. His friends shared they would describe Lonnie as "A good man" "A fine man" and one of the smartest men they ever met. One of his most favorite things to do was travel. Lonnie and Bernice got the opportunity to go to Ireland and trace some of both of their families history. His determination made it possible for him to kiss the Blarney Stone and loved to share those memories with others. Lonnie loved Bernice's cooking. A favorite meal always included fresh picked okra and tomatoes from their huge garden, brown beans, fried potatoes and onions, macaroni and home canned tomatoes and of course those famous delicious homemade buns. His favorite dessert following the meal was a homemade blackberry cobbler. His love for family would bring many get togethers with food, music and fun. Lonnie also made it in the movies. He and Bernice allowed some props and his 1930 model AA truck, which he helped his Uncle Lon restore, to be in the remake of the movie Where the Red Fern Grows. Lonnie was even in a couple of scenes. His Uncle Lon had passed the truck down to him and Lonnie passed it to his grandson, another Lonnie. As always he made many new friends on the set. Many share that Lonnie and Bernice's home was always opened with much love. After Bernice went to heaven Lonnie continued to welcome you in their home and always just made you feel special. He would always say, "I am a rich man, my treasures are not material, my treasures are my family and my friends". It was an honor to be called his friend. Lonnie joins his wife, Bernice, sisters Verna M. Little and Lola B. Ross, brothers Ira M. Green, Dr. David L. Green, and Howard Balcolm in heaven. Throughout his life, Lonnie held an unwavering faith in God, which he generously shared with those who knew him. Lonnie truly beat all odds after having a major heart attack in 1978 leaving him with 1/4 of his heart. He was told he would get to enjoy life for about 5 more years but at the most 20 years. God blessed him not only with 20 more years but doubled it plus. He lived an additional 43 more years. He gave all the glory to God and the power of prayer. His passing was from a recent heart attack but he told his family he was ready to go see Bernice and all his family and friends up in heaven. There is no doubt that a heavenly reunion is now taking place. One of his favorite memories as a child and God answering prayer was at 12 years old. He was the family driver and there was a road checkpoint. He felt he was probably going to be in alot of trouble but his Moma kept telling her children just pray kids just keep praying. They were next in line to be checked and the Highway patrolman looked up at their vehicle turned and walked away. That prayer was answered that day and Lonnie never hesitated to share it with anyone. Named after his mother's brother Alonzo "Lon" Bliss Sims and because "Lonnie" was loved by so many. He had two nephews, a grandson and a great grandson named after him to carry on his legacy. His lasting legacy will also continue to live on through his daughter Kathy Beals and husband Thomas Byrd of Pryor and Yvonne Allesa "Lesa" Golbek and husband Daryl of Claremore. Brother Junior D. Green, sister Ann M. Hughes Gwartney, and sister-in-law (who is truly considered a sister) Joanne Green, all of Claremore. Grandchildren Monica J. Park and husband Chad, Dr. Ross Wayne Green and wife Rachel, Lonnie Jonathan Golbek and wife Nicole, and Dr. Dwayne Ross Golbek and wife Aubrey. Lonnie was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren; Cooper, Alice Anne, Jaxyn, Judah, Ezra, Tessa, Brayden, Kasyn, Hollyn, his most recent namesake Lonnie Daryl, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Lonnie's celebration of life service will be May 7, 2022 (Lonnie and Bernice's anniversary date) at 10 am at the Little Rock church located in the Dog Creek Hills north of Claremore, OK and upon Lonnie's special request this service will be officiated by Pastor Joanne Green, whom is a living testimony of a miracle from God. Burial will follow the service at Green's private cemetery.
