IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margareth A. "Peggy"
Richards
October 8, 1932 – March 25, 2025
Margareth A. "Peggy" Richards, 92, passed away with family at her bedside on March 25, 2025.
Peggy was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado, on October 8, 1932, to James Shuey and Margareth Shuey. She graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1950 and married her high school sweetheart, G Warren Richards in 1952. They began their life together in Golden, Colorado, where Warren attended Colorado School of Mines and Peggy worked as a telephone operator. After graduation, Warren's career took them to Texas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Michigan, and New Mexico before they settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1966.
Peggy was, above all else, a devoted mother and homemaker. While her children attended school she worked as the secretary to the principal of an elementary school. Later, she became a real estate agent and worked for a Tulsa mortgage closing company. She and Warren volunteered together at Catholic Charities and Meals on Wheels. Peggy enjoyed volunteering at St. John's Hospital and working with her St. Pius X parish community.
A talented artist, Peggy excelled at drawing and calligraphy. She used her creativity to craft announcements, scrapbooks, and menus. She was even the proud recipient of an award for her work from the Calligraphy Guild. She also loved music, playing on her keyboard, and she taught herself to play by ear.
After Warren's passing, Peggy embraced new adventures at Elizabeth Park where she also served as HOA treasurer. She yearned to travel and was able to go to the UK (Charlie and Patricia's wedding), Hawaii, Jamaica, and other places she never thought she would be able to see. She found that her passion was living on the lake where she made cherished friendships, enjoyed card games, and cheered for the OU Sooners from her bird's eye view of Grand Lake.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Margareth Shuey, brother, James "Skeet" Shuey, husband G. Warren Richards, and grandson, Donald W. Hott.
Peggy is survived by her brother Dick Shuey, sister Kay Shuey, five children - Debbie Murphy (Paul), Mike Richards (Terry), Susie Garfield (Howard), Mary Howard (Dennis), and Tricia Mitchell (Charlie), 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews in her extended family. She deeply loved her family and was a proud grandmother for 50 years.
A farewell Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery on April 11, at 11:00 am, followed by A Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 12, for family and friends at Vista Towers, at 4:00 pm. Her legacy lives on through her children and all those who were touched by her presence. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Instead of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Peggy is invited to donate to Catholic Charities, Meals on Wheels, or the American Heart Association. If you prefer to send flowers, please have them delivered to Calvary Cemetery 9101 S. Harvard Ave. Tulsa, OK 74137 no earlier than April 9th.
