Mark Lynn Monkres, 52, Tulsa, passed away at his home on April 23, 2014, from Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare pediatric cancer. Mark was an Eagle Scout (Troop 20) and a member of Kappa Alpha Order (Beta Iota Chapter). He graduated Edison High School, Tulsa, Class of 80, and Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Mark was employed as an instrumentation outside salesman for MD Controls, Vector, in Tulsa. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, water-ski, ride a motorcycle and was extremely knowledgeable of engines or anything mechanical. A member of Oklahoma Boat Racing Association, he raced hydroplanes, and owned his own team, and was the happiest when he was piloting his boat O-49, in a race. He had also been active in the Heartland Classics Antique and Classic Boat Club in past years. Mark loved to cook and entertain friends, create things from wood, paint, work in the yard, garden and most of all he loved life. He possessed so many great qualities, had a tremendous sense of humor and was a gentleman always. Mark was diagnosed with his cancer in early February of this year and lived each day to the fullest. Mark was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents H.H (Buddy) and Ella Monkres; maternal grandparents Howard and Martha Heffington; great uncles Jerry Keith and Hobert Heffington and cousin Carole Heffington Goddard. He is survived by his constant companion of 47 years, Melissa Backward of the home; his daughter Marissa Lynn Monkres of Springfield, Missouri; parents Terry and Myrna Monkres of Tulsa; sister Cynthia Davis and husband LaVere of Tulsa; brother Tim Monkres and wife Carolyn of Tulsa; nephews Blake Brownlee of St. Louis, Missouri, Mark Brownlee and Matthew Brownlee of Tulsa. He is also survived by great aunt Roberta Keith of Carlsbad, NM; cousin Vicki Kirchner and husband Tom, also of Carlsbad, NM; uncle and aunt Don and Barbara Heffington of Tulsa; cousin Donnie Heffington and wife Melanie of Tulsa; also survived by Uncle and Aunt Duane and Yvonne Monkres of Edmond, and cousins Gary and Rusty Monkres of Edmond, Oklahoma and a host of loving friends. Memorial Service for Mark will be held Monday, May 5, 2014, 1 PM, at First Presbyterian Church Tulsa.
